On Tuesday, February 16, Lee Seol Joo – the wife of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un – made her first public appearance in a year. This is reported by the BBC with reference to the DPRK state media.
As noted, Lee Seol Joo joined her husband at a concert at the Mansuda Art Theater dedicated to the birthday of his late father and former DPRK leader Kim Jong Il.
Lee has often accompanied Kim to major events in the past, but has not been seen since January 2020.
Her absence has fueled concerns about her health, as well as rumors of a possible pregnancy.
According to South Korean intelligence, Lee has avoided appearing in public due to concerns about COVID-19 and may have spent time with her children.
North Korea has not officially reported COVID-19 cases, although experts believe this is unlikely.
Photos in the theater show Lee and Kim smiling, and the lack of masks and social distancing measures.

Lee Seol Joo comes from an upper class family where her father is a professor and her mother is an obstetrician.
According to media reports, Lee, 31, was previously a singer with the Unhasu Orchestra, an elite troupe whose members are confirmed by the government.
She is believed to have married Kim in 2009 – the marriage was arranged by Kim Jong Il after he suffered a stroke in 2008.
According to South Korean intelligence, the couple have three children.
