Spetses, the Greek island loved by Hollywood stars

Spetses is one of the Saronic Islands which can be reached from the Athenian port of Piraeus by ferry or hydrofoil in less than two hours. The island has escaped mass tourism and has therefore remained rather quiet compared to many other Greek islands. But the main feature of Spetses is that no cars allowed on the island except for the (few) taxis and vehicles used for deliveries: for the rest people move on foot, by bicycle, by motorbike or scooter and, sometimes, by carriage.

The atmosphere in Spetses is typically Greek with cobbled streets, scented gardens and lush with jasmine and bougainvillea and is frequented all year round by those looking for a special and exclusive place. Historically Spetses was indeed frequented by high societya characteristic that is reflected in elegant restaurants, art shops, boutique hotels and well-kept shops, especially in the port area.
