King Charles celebrates 80th anniversary of D-Day

King Charles and Prince William of Great Britain participated this Wednesday (5) in a national commemoration event for D-Day in Portsmouth, United Kingdom.

Speaking to an audience that included D-Day veterans, King Charles highlighted the “privilege” he felt hearing stories of “courage, resilience and solidarity” from those who took part in the attack that helped defeat Nazi Germany in the Second World War.

Prince William said he was deeply honored to be joined at the ceremony by guests who helped fight tyranny.

Also accompanied by Queen Camilla, the three will later travel to Normandy, France, where an 80th anniversary ceremony of the battle will also take place on French territory.

More than 150,000 troops from the United States, Great Britain, Canada and other Allied nations participated in the D-Day landings, the beginning of an invasion that led to the liberation of France and victory on the Western Front.
