There are “great expectations” about what the UK government will be like under the command of now King Charles III, in the assessment of ESPM’s professor of international relations, Alexandre Uehara.
In an interview with CNN Radio the expert said that the monarch has a different profile from his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died last Thursday (8), aged 96.
“Somehow there is an expectation that he will keep a low profile, like his mother, who intervened little,” he said.
However, Uehara sees that interventions that may come from King Charles III will be “on issues of a consensual and global scope, as well as environmental and ecological ones.”
For the professor, “economic issues may be left to Prime Minister Liz Truss.” She was chosen for the post left by Boris Johnson this week.
Alexandre Uehara reinforces that the United Kingdom, since Brexit, has been experiencing economic uncertainties, which were “accentuated by the war”, with inflation above 10%, with an impact on sectors such as energy.
“There is a need for new measures to try to support the population, with an audacious plan, but the UK still has credibility, it is among the largest economies in the world”, he added.
