King Charles in the hospital – He will undergo prostate surgery

Her king Charles of Britain was admitted to hospital today for a planned “corrective operation” involving an enlarged prostate, according to a report in the Sun newspaper.

The king arrived at the private London Clinic, where his daughter-in-law Kate, Princess of Wales, is in hospital following abdominal surgery last week, and is expected to remain there for two nights, the newspaper reported.

Buckingham Palace announced last week that the 75-year-old Karolos will undergo the operation this week for a benign condition common in men over 50.

There was no immediate comment on the Sun report, according to international agencies and the Athens News Agency.

Charles' wife, Queen Camilla, said ahead of the operation that Charles is “doing well” and “can't wait to get back to work” with his public duties on hold while he recovers.

Usually members of the royal family do not release details of illnesses to the public, considering all medical matters private, but Charles wanted to publicize the operation to encourage other men with symptoms to undergo a medical examination.

The NHS announced that it had seen a 1000% increase in visits to its website seeking advice on prostate enlargement since Charles' case was made public.

The Palace has announced that Charles is pleased that the news of his health issue has awakened the public.

“Her Majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their best wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public awareness,” a Palace statement said.

The operation that Charles will undergo is yet another medical issue involving a member of the royal family.

She was preceded by 42-year-old Kate, Princess of Wales, who is still recovering in hospital after surgery for an unspecified condition, with cancer being ruled out.

Meanwhile, the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, ex-wife of Charles' younger brother Prince Andrew, said on Monday she was shocked to be diagnosed with a form of skin cancer.
