Britain's King Charles is doing “extremely well”, his wife Queen Camilla said on Thursday in her first public engagement since the 75-year-old monarch was diagnosed with cancer.
Speaking to a well-wisher at a benefit concert at Salisbury Cathedral in southern England, Camilla said Charles was moved by the audience's messages of support.
“He is doing extremely well given the circumstances,” she said. “He is very touched by all the letters and messages the public has sent from everywhere. This is very encouraging.”
On Wednesday, Charles' son and heir to the throne, Prince William, thanked the British public for their kind messages about his father and his wife Kate following his recent surgery.
Kate, 42, underwent planned abdominal surgery on January 16 and then spent two weeks in hospital recovering.
Charles has since undergone treatment for an enlarged prostate, before Buckingham Palace announced on Monday that the monarch's subsequent scans had detected a type of cancer.
With the king postponing his public duties to undergo outpatient treatment and Kate out of commitments until after Easter, the onus of working on the monarchy's public image falls on the other royals, especially William and Camilla.
