“None of this is good news. The Queen is very dear, Charles less so. I think it’s going to be hard for him no matter what happens, but all these revelations aren’t helping,” she noted.

The involvement of his name in a bribery scandal

More recently, Charles has been involved in bribery scandal. A series of newspaper exposés claimed that Michael Fawcett, Charles’ right-hand man for decades, had offered titles of honor, even British citizenship, in exchange for donations to Charles’ foundations.

The Sunday Times reported that a Saudi billionaire businessman was decorated and granted British citizenship thanks to aides of Charles after previously paying thousands of pounds into schemes strongly supported by Britain’s current king.

After the publication of the relevant article, Fawcett temporarily resigned from his position as director of Charles’ charity The Prince’s Foundation and the relevant regulatory authority began an investigation into the funding.

Charles himself stated that he knew nothing about the relationship of the Saudi cross with his foundation and the rewards he received for his donations, implying that Fawcett is responsible for everything.

He was later cleared of financial mismanagement charges involving the sale of unwanted royal gifts, but an internal report found that various members of Charles’ services were responsible for “serious irregularities”.
