“King Kong”: discover all the films in the franchise

Called “The Eighth Wonder of the World” King Kong was created in the 1930s and is still alive today on the big screen, with his first film premiered in 1933 and the last released in 2024.

The great primate has had more than 10 productions over the years. Check out all the films from the fictional monster that went down in cinema history below.

  • King Kong (1933)

Created by filmmaker Merian C. Cooper, King Kong first appeared on the big screen in 1933. The plot follows Ann Darrow and director Carl Denham, who travel to the Indian Ocean to film locations for Denham’s new film. Upon arriving on a mysterious island, Ann is taken hostage by natives who prepare her as a sacrifice for the enormous monkey Kong, who rules the jungle. When Ann is saved and Kong captured, the real trouble begins.

  • The Son of King Kong (1933)

The success of the first film and character spawned a sequel nine months later. Searching for treasure on Skull Island, producer Carl Denham discovers the son of the late King Kong.

  • King Kong vs Godzilla (1962)

Tako, president of a large pharmaceutical company in Japan, had a bold idea to promote one of his new products that promises to cure several diseases: introducing the Japanese to King Kong, a giant gorilla who supposedly grew and became strong through matter- prime of the product. But during the process, the gorilla escapes while the dreaded Godzilla is also on the loose.

  • King Kong Escape (1967)

After the total failure with the Robot Kongbuilt to serve the government and excavate precious stones in a mine, the real King Kong He is captured on his island to take over the services, all in an arbitrary and violent manner.

  • King Kong (1976)

An expedition searching for oil comes across a giant gorilla on a prehistoric Pacific island and decides to capture it to make money by exhibiting it in New York. A woman finds herself held hostage by the gorilla when he escapes and terrorizes the city.

  • King Kong 2 (1986)

After Kong falls from the World Trade Center, King Kong still appears to be alive. However, his heart is failing, and is replaced by an artificial heart. Everything goes well until he senses that there is a female Kong somewhere and escapes causing havoc.

  • The Mighty Kong (1998)

An animated version with the same plot as the first film was released in 1998.

  • King Kong (2005)

Perhaps the most famous film in the franchise, the 2005 production is a remake of the first feature. In the 1930s, filmmaker Carl Denham and his team take a trip from New York to a mysterious island to film a new feature film. Playwright Jack Driscoll and actress Ann Darrow are part of the expedition.

  • Kong: Skull Island (2017)

An ex-soldier travels with a group of explorers to the mythical Skull Island, where his brother disappeared. The team of explorers ventures into the depths of the unknown island, unaware that they are entering the domain of the mythical Kong.

  • Godzilla vs. Kong (2020)

Kong and his protectors embark on a dangerous journey to find their true home. Jia, an orphan girl who has a unique and powerful bond with the titan, accompanies the adventure. However, they soon encounter Godzilla on the way, completely enraged, leaving a trail of blood behind.destruction around the world. The initial confrontation between the two titans, instigated by mysterious forces, is just the beginning of the enigma that lies deep within the planet.

  • Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire (2024)

Sequel to the film released in 2020, the two titans feel a threat coming from Hollow Earth, their place of origin. To defeat the enemy, they must unite their forces.
