Kioxia Shown PCIe Gen 5.0 SSD Prototype Delivers Read Speed Up to 14,000MB / s

Kioxia has demonstrated the first benchmarks of next-generation solid state drives that deliver double the bandwidth of existing models. The increase is provided by the transition from PCIe Gen 4.0 to PCIe Gen 5.0.

The PCIe Gen 5.0 SSD prototype delivers sequential read speeds of up to 14,000 MB / s and write speeds of up to 7,000 MB / s. This is 103% and 67% more than the Kioxia SSD with PCIe Gen 4.0 interface. The random access speed is also almost double the speed, and the performance, measured as the number of I / O operations per unit of time, is 50% faster. Finally, the reading latency is reduced by 77%, and the write latency is reduced by 50%.

Kioxia plans to release its first PCI Gen 5.0 SSDs in Q4 2021. These will be server models of the CD7 series, made in the EDSFF E3.S standard size and equipped with a PCIe Gen 5.0 x4 interface. Their capacity will be in the range of 1.6-30 TB, and the resource will be 1-3 DWPD. In the consumer segment, SSDs with a new interface will appear later, around 2022.
