Kiss Nightclub roof removed: see images of the interior of the nightclub where 242 people died

Work is ongoing to demolish the property where Boate Kiss operated, a nightclub in Santa Maria (RS) where 242 people died after a fire in 2013.

This week, the roof of the nightclub was removed and the furniture that was inside the property was removed. Aerial images taken this Thursday (25) show what the inside of the place is like. See the gallery above.

After the roof was completely removed, workers began the manual work of removing the windows and wooden structures. Next, they will begin demolishing the remaining walls in the area where the nightclub used to be.

On July 10, the City of Santa Maria held a celebration to mark the beginning of the demolition. A memorial will be built at the site in honor of the victims.

During the demolition process, some items will be collected from the site and displayed in the future memorial.

The architectural design of the memorial was chosen after a national competition held in 2018. The work is budgeted at approximately R$5 million.

The structure will feature a circular naturalistic flower garden and an auditorium. Around it, there will be 242 wooden pillars, each representing a victim of the tragedy.

With approximately 383.65 square meters, in addition to the garden and the auditorium, the space will have a single floor with an office, multipurpose area, bathrooms, storage, technical area and a balcony.

Remember the case

The Kiss nightclub fire occurred on January 27, 2013. Around 636 people were injured. The use of pyrotechnic devices inside the nightclub is believed to have caused the fire.

At the time, sparks released by the flares hit the soundproofing foam located on the ceiling of the location, which resulted in the rapid spread of the fire, generating toxic smoke.

Most of the victims died of suffocation due to the smoke. The incident is considered the biggest tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul and the second biggest in the country in terms of the number of victims in a fire.
