Knife attack in Sweden: Court orders 22-year-old in custody

The pre-trial detention of the 22-year-old suspect for a knife attack ordered a Swedish court on Friday, according to a statement from a court spokesman.

The man faces seven counts of attempted murder in a small town in the southern Swedish town of Vetlanda on Wednesday, injuring seven people, none of them fatally.

Police have not ruled out the terrorist motive for the attack, but as the case has not been assigned to counterterrorism prosecutors, it seems that no strong evidence has been found to support such a possibility.

The suspect, who is a refugee from Afghanistan and was arrested on Wednesday, allegedly acted alone, as reported by Reuters and relayed by the Athens News Agency.
