Know the importance of boosting the Covid-19 vaccine

In this Wednesday (17) edition of the Medical Correspondent board, of Novo Dia, neurosurgeon Fernando Gomes spoke about the booster dose of the vaccine against Covid-19. The Ministry of Health now directs that all people over 18 years old who received two-dose immunizations return to vaccination posts for the third application.

The recommendation also applies to Janssen’s vaccine, which was considered a single dose. All those vaccinated with this immunizer must take a second dose two months after the first. Five months later, they must return for the third dose.

“Time is passing and the numbers are favorable, it seems that we are in a situation of more control than months ago, and we have to attribute this to the efficient vaccination process”, said Fernando Gomes.

“We know that the preliminary data, with the first vaccines applied, were in an organized context. When we have the application in the real world, we know that there is no eternal loading of the immunization after the application of the vaccine”, he continued. “So, the natural context is to strengthen the population’s immune system in an organized way.”

“The line of thought is: if I stimulate the immune system with different immunizations, I can enrich the response, the body itself against the coronavirus”, said the doctor about Pfizer’s preference as a booster dose.
