Micro-display company Kopin has announced that it has signed a multi-year agreement with Jade Bird Display (JBD), a Chinese company founded in 2015 to develop micro-LED panels. The subject of the agreement is the development of super-bright monochrome LED microdisplays.

Through the collaboration, JBD will provide LED wafers and silicon wafer hybrid bonding service designed and supplied by Kopin to create monolithic LED microdisplays with a resolution of 2K x 2K (2048 x 2048 pixels) and measuring approximately 1 inch diagonally.
Kopin recalls that it holds early patents (# 5300788, # 5453405 and # 6403985) on LED microdisplay technology. The benefits of microdisplays based on micro LEDs include the potential for ultra-high brightness with low power consumption, which may make them ideal for many applications, including augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) applications.
