Kopin creates the world’s first green HDR OLED microdisplay with over 35,000 nits of brightness

Kopin Corporation, a high-resolution microdisplay design and manufacture corporation, today announced the world’s first ultra-high brightness (> 35,000 nits) high dynamic range (HDR) OLED micro display. This ultra-bright 1-inch, 1280 x 1024-pixel microdisplay for AR applications is still under development. The given technical parameters are measured on engineering samples.

The microdisplay uses a proprietary dual-stack OLED structure that delivers ultra-high brightness. It also utilizes a unique pixel structure and a patent-pending 14-bit drive architecture. The increased current efficiency provided by the two-stack OLED structure allows for higher brightness with less power consumption. The power consumption of the new display is said to be about half that of LCDs of equivalent brightness. Another plus is the longer lifespan compared to single stack OLED panels.
