Kopin, a high-resolution micro display company, has announced the delivery of the first 720p (1280 x 720 pixels) color OLED micro displays. They are custom-made for an unnamed American security company. The 0.49-inch display uses Kopin ColorMax technology, which provides good color rendering (covering more than 90% of the sRGB color space) and a two-stack structure, which allows high current efficiency (more than 10 cd / A).
The two-stack structure is two OLED structures stacked on top of each other and connected in series. It was developed by Kopin’s manufacturing partner, LakesideOptoelectronic Technology. This structure provides much greater potential for increased brightness, reduced power consumption, and longer lifespan than a single stack structure. The patented ColorMax technology includes a specially configured anode structure in the silicon backing layer that prevents color mixing between tiny subpixels (2.8 x 8.4 μm).
