Kosovo: Eight arrested after explosion in water canal used to generate electricity

Kosovo’s Interior Minister Jellal Svetsla announced, at a press conference, that eight people have been arrested as part of investigations into last night’s explosion in a water canal used for electricity generation. Svetslai also reported that “a huge arsenal” was found and confiscated in the possession of those arrested, as well as a large number of military camouflage uniforms. The Kosovar minister revealed that “the explosion in the water canal was caused by an explosive which was placed in a black bag and activated with a slow-burning fuse”. On Friday night, an explosion occurred in an artificial water channel in northern Kosovo, causing a crack in the concrete wall and causing a leak. This canal supplied water to a thermal power station in Kosovo, which caused problems in the production of electricity. Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti called the blast a “terrorist act” and accused Belgrade of orchestrating the bombing.
