Kosovo has lost more than 10% of its population in thirteen years and now has fewer than 1.6 million inhabitants, according to the official preliminary results of a new census, from which Serbs, however, were overwhelmingly absent, announced yesterday Friday statistics service (ASK). During the process, the authorities proceeded to enumerate exactly 1,586,659 inhabitants, compared to more than 1.8 million in 2011. The population decrease is mainly explained by the mass migration of inhabitants to western Europe. According to demographic experts, around 800,000 Kosovars live and work in EU member states, half of them in Germany.
