Kraken now has its own crypto wallet

On April 17, 2024, the Kraken cryptocurrency exchange launched its own crypto wallet of the same name. The software is already available for download and installation.

Company representatives said that this product is the first open-source crypto wallet for a major international exchange. This way, developers will be able to make their own changes if they wish, contributing to its further development, noted Kraken.

The exchange also intends to pay specialists who can find vulnerabilities in the software code. Kraken uses its grant program to achieve this.

At first, the wallet will support eight different networks. Among them are the following blockchains:

  • bitcoin;
  • Ethereum;
  • Arbitrum;
  • Base;
  • Solana;
  • Dogecoin;
  • Optimism;
  • Polygon.

In the future, the company plans to increase the number of supported networks.

“Kraken has been advising people to take custody of their assets for over a decade. We built Kraken Wallet on principles common to the cryptocurrency space, such as user privacy and open source,” said Kraken Wallet Chief Product Officer Eric Kuhn.

In addition, the Kraken team stated that they will collect a minimal amount of data related to the use of the wallet. All information is transmitted through the exchange’s own infrastructure, which eliminates outside interference in the operation of the product, the company emphasized.

The crypto wallet is available both to existing clients of the company and to third-party users.
