Cryptocurrency exchange Kraken will close access to XRP trading to its US clients until January 29.
“Amid the recent SEC lawsuit against Ripple Labs Inc. we are stopping XRP trading for US residents. We can start this process at any time before January 29, so all American clients are strongly encouraged to sort out positions before that date, ”the publication says.
In particular, holders of short positions need to ensure that they meet the margin requirements by the end of the day on January 28 to avoid liquidation. At the same time, American customers will still be able to use Kraken to deposit / withdraw and store funds in XRP. Users from other countries will not be affected by these changes.
“We are monitoring the situation in connection with the SEC lawsuit and will adjust in accordance with the development of events,” adds Kraken.
A number of trading platforms have previously announced they will end support or restrict XRP transactions, including OKCoin, Coinbase, Bittrex, Genesis, Binance.US, and eToro. Kraken remained the last major exchange where Americans could trade an asset. XRP has lost 15% in value over the past week, resuming decline after a partial recovery in early January.
