Kremlin attack on Europe: ‘Russia remains a reliable gas exporter’

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today that all difficulties in supplying Europe with Russian natural gas are due to Western restrictions.

Speaking to reporters by phone, Peskov said Russia remains “a very important and necessary part of European energy security.”

Amid concerns in Europe that Russia could further cut gas supplies to the continent, Peskov referred to President Vladimir Putin’s earlier comments that Gazprom has met and will continue to meet its obligations to its customers.

Peskov also noted that Western sanctions imposed on Russia for its actions in Ukraine will not force it to change course. “Even the toughest sanctions have never made countries change their attitude.”

The Kremlin also addressed rumors that Russian President Vladimir Putin is unwell, dismissing them.

The Kremlin spokesman told reporters that there had been speculation in the West about the president’s health in recent months, but reports that he was ill were “nothing but false”.

Finally, Peskov noted that Moscow hopes that the next British Prime Minister will adopt a cool attitude towards Russia.
