Russian troops resumed their offensive in Ukraine on Saturday after President Vladimir Putin halted the attack a day earlier in anticipation of talks with Kiev that never took place, the Kremlin said, according to Reuters.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov also said in a statement that Russia was awaiting Western sanctions in response to the invasion and was taking steps to minimize its impact on the economy.
According to the Russian RIA news agency, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense, all Russian units in Ukraine on Saturday were ordered to continue their attack from all directions after the ceasefire on Friday.

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Sijiatro has suggested hosting the talks in his home country. Both sides received an invitation and said they were considering the proposal, a spokesman in Budapest said.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday called for the return of troops to their barracks as the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues, stressing that “another chance for peace” must be given after Russia’s veto of the Security Council. the draft resolution condemning Moscow’s actions.
“We will never give up” to achieve peace, he told reporters shortly after the UN Security Council meeting, declining to answer questions.
Earlier, Russia vetoed a draft UN Security Council resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. China abstained from the vote, which was interpreted by Western countries as a “victory” in trying to isolate Moscow. The United Arab Emirates and India have taken the same stance as China.
The remaining 11 members of the UN Security Council voted in favor of the draft resolution, which is now expected to be submitted to the United Nations General Assembly.
