Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny calls for daily anti-war protests in Russia

Detained Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny has called on Russians to hold daily protests against the Russian military operation in Ukraine, his spokeswoman wrote on Twitter today.

“Alexei Navalny has called on the people to take to the streets and protest daily at 19:00 and on weekends at 14:00 against the war. In the central squares of your cities, where you are,” wrote Keira Yarmis.

Navalny’s movement had earlier called for a campaign of political disobedience as a sign of protest against the Russian invasion of its neighbor.

Navalny, the most prominent opponent of President Vladimir Putin, was jailed last year on his return to Russia from Germany after recovering from an attempted assassination of a neurotoxic agent in Siberia, according to Western laboratory results.

Russia denies any wrongdoing.

Since then the authorities have intensified the repression of his movement and central figures of the movement have exiled themselves after the authorities described them as “foreign agents”.
