Kremlin on Oreshnik missile launch: “The strike was a message to the West” – NATO-Ukraine meeting on Tuesday

The Kremlin said today that the strike in Ukraine with a new hypersonic ballistic missile was carried out to warn the West that Moscow would respond to moves by the US and Britain to allow Kiev to hit Russia with their missiles. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the remarks a day after President Vladimir Putin said Moscow had fired the new Oresnik (Fundukia) missile at a Ukrainian military installation. Peskov said Russia was under no obligation to warn the United States of the strike, but did inform the US 30 minutes before the launch. Putin remains open to dialogue, Peskov stressed. “Yesterday’s speech (by President Putin) was very, very comprehensive, clear, logical,” the spokesman for the Russian presidency told reporters. “We have no doubt, therefore, that the present administration in Washington has had an opportunity to become familiar with this statement and to understand it.” NATO and […]
