Kremlin: Putin, Lukashenko discuss gas flows to Europe

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko have discussed the flow of Russian gas to Europe via Belarus, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov said on Wednesday, according to Russian news agency Novosti.

Peshkov said that the discussion took place yesterday Sunday, but did not give further details about the communication between the two presidents.

Mr Lukashenko on Thursday threatened to retaliate against the European Union (EU) over new sanctions on his country over the Belarussian-Polish border crisis, saying he could stop the flow of gas through Belarus.

For his part, Putin said on Saturday that Minsk had not consulted Moscow in advance, adding that such a move could damage ties between Minsk and Moscow’s key ally, the EU.
