The Kremlin said today that Estonia’s failed attempt to capture tankers in the Baltic Sea recently showed that Moscow could respond with harsh actions if needed and that Russia would defend its ships with all available measures. Last Thursday, Tallinn said that Moscow had briefly sent a fighter aircraft to NATO’s airspace over the Baltic Sea during Estonia’s attempt to stop a tanker for which it was suspected of being part of a “shadow” fleet. Russia then captured a Greek -owned oil tanker on Sunday in Russian territorial waters after sailing from an Estonian port, as Estonian public broadcasting ERR reported yesterday.
