Kremlin stunned by sanctions on Vladimir Putin’s daughters

The Kremlin announced today that Washington’s decision to continue supplying arms and providing military assistance to Ukraine is likely to damage the prospects for successful peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. The supply of “weapons to Ukraine “It will not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian talks,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov told reporters by telephone after being asked about US arms supplies to Ukraine.

“Of course this is most likely to have a negative effect,” he added.

Peshkov also noted that the Kremlin was speechless US decision to impose sanctions on President Vladimir Putin’s adult daughtersdescribing the move as part of a wider Western frenzy against Russia.

New US sanctions imposed on Moscow yesterday over its military intervention in Ukraine target Russian banks and elites, including Putin’s daughters Katerina and Maria, whom US officials believe are hiding their father’s wealth.

“We certainly consider these sanctions to be an extension of a very angry position on restrictions,” Peshkov said. “In any case, the ongoing line to impose restrictions on family members speaks for itself,” he was quoted as saying by Reuters and the Athens News Agency.

They do not understand why Putin’s daughters were targeted

The Kremlin can not understand why his daughters were targeted Putincontinued Peshkov.

“It’s something that is difficult to understand and explain,” he said. “Unfortunately we have to deal with such opponents.”

Putin’s daughter, Katerina Tikhonova, is a techie who works to support the Russian government and its defense industry, according to details in a US sanctions package announced yesterday.

His other daughter, Maria Vorontsova, is leading government-funded programs that have received billions of dollars from the Kremlin for genetic research and are being personally overseen by Putin, according to the United States.

The Russian president always keeps his private and family life out of the limelight. The Kremlin often rejects questions about his family, citing his right to privacy.

Peshkov, meanwhile, also said today that the Kremlin would decide whether Russian President Vladimir Putin would attend the G20 summit in Indonesia later this year, depending on how things turn out.

Asked about the demands of some G20 leaders to exclude Putin from the summit due to his decision to send tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine, Peshkov said.

“We will clarify this, after all Indonesia is the organizer,” Peshkov said.

Russia’s ambassador to Indonesia said last month that Putin intended to travel to Bali, Indonesia, for the G20 summit in November, despite opposition from Western countries.
