Kuleba: Kiev, West block ‘escalation’ by Russia

LAST UPDATE: 12.08

Ukraine and the West have managed to prevent an “escalation” on the part of Russia, said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, shortly after announcing the start of a withdrawal of Russian troops from areas around Ukraine.

“Together with our partners, we have managed to prevent any new escalation on the part of Russia,” he said.

According to him, however, it is still too early to see that there is a real reduction of tensions in this crisis, which has shaken Europe since the end of 2021.

“The situation remains tense, but under control,” Kuleba added the day after German Chancellor Olaf Solz’s visit to Moscow, which arrived in Moscow today.

“Russia is constantly making all kinds of statements and that is why we have a rule: we will believe in a de-escalation when we have seen the withdrawal of the troops,” he added.

After weeks of tension, Russia announced today marks the beginning of a withdrawal of some of the Russian troops that had deployed near the Ukrainian border and are now returning to their bases.
