A rocket attack took place in the early hours of Sunday morning in the city of Arbilcapital of its autonomous region Kurdistan in northern Iraq.
From the attack there were no casualtiessaid Saman Barzani, Minister of Health of the local government.
The rockets were fired from Iran, a US official said (not named) to Reuters. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
“Twelve ballistic missiles fired from a location outside Iraqi territory targeting Arbil”according to Reuters citing the Kurdistan Region Counter-Terrorism Service.
The rocket attack took place near the US consulate and airport.
A State Department spokesman spoke of “Outrageous attack”while he confirmed that no American was injured and there was no damage to the American consulate.
The Kurdistan24 television network published images of disasters at its facilities in posts on social media.
“We condemn this terrorist attack on several parts of Arbil, we urge the people to remain calm.”said the Prime Minister of Iraqi Kurdistan, Masrour Barzani.
The last attack on the city of Arbil took place last September, when drones hit the airport, without any casualties.
