Ukrainian forces today accused Russia of shelling the city where the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant is located (south), while an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) mission is expected there.
“The Russian army is shelling Enerhodar,” Yevgen Yeftuchenko, head of the administration of Nikopolis, which is across from Enerhodar on the other side of the Dnieper River, told Telegram. “The situation with these challenges is dangerous,” he added.
Dmytro Orlov, the mayor of Enerhodar near Kyiv, who is now in exile, posted on Telegram images of the city’s city council building with its facade damaged. This building is located several kilometers from the nuclear power plant facilities.
Yeftuchenko said the Russians, who control Enerhodar and the station, bombed the city to blame Ukrainian forces. “The purpose of this spectacle is to evoke a corresponding image of the mission of the IAEA,” he argued.
A mission of IAEA inspectors is en route to the nuclear plant, the target of weeks of bombing that Moscow and Kyiv have blamed on each other.
