Ukraine today accused Russia of stockpiling heavy weapons and ammunition at the occupied Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in the south of the country.
According to Energoatom, the Ukrainian nuclear energy provider, at least 14 units of heavy military hardware with their ammunition are stored in the engine room of reactor 1 of the plant, Europe’s largest.
“The entire heavy arsenal together with all the ammunition is now close to the equipment that ensures the operation of the turbogenerator,” the company said on its Telegram channel.
The Russian armament is located very close to the main oil tank, the flammable product of which is used to cool the steam turbine, just as hydrogen is used to cool the generator, according to Energoatom.
The Ukrainian agency is concerned about the risk of an accidental fire. AFP notes that it cannot independently verify this information.
