A Ukrainian official on Wednesday accused the International Committee of the Red Cross of not cooperating with its country to determine the fate of Ukrainian refugees in Russia for “synergy” in the “deportations”, which was categorically denied by the ICRC.
“The ICRC is not fulfilling its mission” regarding the refugees who are being transferred, as he said against their will and by force to Russia by the Russian troops.
The accusations were made by Lyudmila Denisova, the human rights commissioner in the Ukrainian parliament, speaking on Ukrainian television.
“I suspect he is an accomplice of Russia,” she said after meeting with an official of the Ukrainian Red Cross commission.
“It has been a month since I tried to see the ICRC president to discuss with him the deportation of our citizens to Russia. “Southern Russia, near the border with Ukraine) and will encourage the reception of Ukrainians on the territory of the aggressor state,” Ms. Denisova added.
“Today I met with the representative of the Ukrainian arm of the Red Cross, to whom I wrote 120 letters on the subject of the search for our citizens. I did not receive any answer,” he added.
He cited UN figures, which put 550,000 Ukrainian refugees in Russia, including 121,000 children.
“Where are they? In camps? No temporary outbreaks? There are testimonies of people who led them,” he said.
Ms Denisova also stressed that she had asked her Russian counterpart Tatiana Maskalkova to send her lists of Ukrainian refugees in Russia so that Kyiv could work with the ICRC on their repatriation: “No response from her and the side of the ICC “.
Asked about the statements of the Ukrainian official by the French Agency, the ICRC “categorically rejected these false accusations”, reiterated once again that it does not “make forced evictions” and reminded that “it facilitated the voluntary passage of civilians, any safety and injuries “to various Ukrainian cities.
He confirmed that he was “considering opening an office in Rostov-on-Don” to “alleviate the suffering of people affected by the armed conflict”.
“Dialogue with all parties in a war is essential, in order to have access to all the people affected and in order to ensure the necessary security guarantees for our teams that provide vital assistance,” the ICC stressed.
The group said it had a “positive and constructive” meeting with the Ukrainian official yesterday and had given Ms Denisova “answers to the authorities’ concerns on these issues bilaterally and confidentially”.
The Ukrainian authorities often accuse the Russian army of forcibly leading civilians to Russia against their will.
