Condemn them statements of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov who compared the measures imposed by the West on Russia with the Holocaust urged the Jewish organizations on Thursday (19/1) a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Speaking yesterday, Wednesday (18/1) at an annual press conference on a wide range of issues, Lavrov said the US had formed a coalition of European countries to solve “the Russian question” in the same way that Adolf Hitler sought a “final solution” to exterminate the Jews of Europe.
“The US, through Ukrainianare waging a war against our country with the same goal: the final solution of the Russian issue,” the head of Russian diplomacy pointed out characteristically, as reported by the Athens News Agency.
“We call them Jewish organizations to condemn Sergei Lavrov’s shameful statement equating Russians, waging a war of aggression against a sovereign nation, with Jews murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust,” Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko tweeted.
“Russian state-sponsored anti-Semitism must not be tolerated,” he said.
Shocked by Lavrov’s statements, the European Jewish Congress
The European Jewish Congress in a statement yesterday said it was shocked by Lavrov’s comments.
“We are shocked and stunned by this shameful comparison made by Minister Lavrov between the actions of a coalition of democratic countries and Hitler’s persecution and murder of six million Jews in the Shoah,” said European Jewish Congress President Ariel Musikand.
At the same time, yesterday the White House described the relative statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry as “really offensive”.
