Kyiv: The Russians do not yet fully control Mariupol

The situation in the southeastern Ukrainian port city of Mariupol is “extremely difficult” but the city has not come under the full control of Russian forces, a spokesman for Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said today.

Speaking to reporters, spokesman Oleksandr Motuzyanik also said that bombings by Russian fighter jets had increased by at least 50% and that Ukraine’s infrastructure was becoming increasingly targeted.

According to Reuters, Ukraine also called on Russia today to facilitate the development of a humanitarian corridor to evacuate the besieged Mariupol and one of the steel plant, which is the last major area of Ukrainian resistance.

“We demand an urgent humanitarian corridor from the Azovstal plant area for women, children and other civilians,” Deputy Prime Minister Irina Veresuk told the Telegram.
