Kyiv urges citizens to reduce vehicle use to save fuel for army

Authorities in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, have urged citizens not to use their cars to save fuel for the military, CNN reported.

“Citizens, if you have returned to the capital, please use public transport, if possible. Those who are in safe places outside Kiev, please wait before returning,” said Mykola Povoroznyk, deputy mayor of Kiev, adding that authorities are considering needs of the Ukrainian army.

Povoroznyk said there were no problems with the city’s public transport network, which is constantly expanding to provide transportation to residents returning to the capital.

Authorities in the capital have called on citizens not to return because of the risk of rocket fire. It is estimated that about a third of Kiev’s population has left the city.
