Kyiv urges West to impose full energy embargo on Russia, demands more weapons from NATO

LAST UPDATE: 09.28

Ukraine will continue to insist on a full embargo on Russian oil and gas, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said as he attended a NATO Foreign Ministers’ Summit in Brussels.

At the same time, he reiterated Kiev’s request to exclude all Russian banks from the SWIFT system, as well as to assure that all ports will be closed to Russian ships and Russian goods.

Dmitro Kuleba, however, commented that a week ago the sanctions were “much weaker”.

Asked about Germany’s stance, he noted that it “took a revolutionary step in changing its position from not agreeing to provide arms to allowing certain supplies”. However, he added that he could do more and that there was now co-operation with the German government in providing additional equipment.

“The issue that concerns me most is the duration of the procedures and decision-making in Berlin. Because Berlin has time, while Kyiv does not have it,” he said.

“My agenda is simple, it includes only three things: weapons, ammunition and weapons,” he said.

“We are convinced that the best way to help Ukraine is to provide it with what it needs to defeat the Russian army,” he said.

He added that Ukrainians know how to fight, how to win, but reiterated that they need more weapons.

“The more weapons we receive and the sooner they reach Ukraine, the more lives will be saved, the fewer towns and villages will be destroyed and there will be no more Bhutanese,” he said.
