Taiwanese manufacturer Kymco is entering the electric scooter market in Europe. The company will launch its ionex electric scooters with battery swap functionality in Italy.
It is worth noting that companies such as Gogoro, Kymco and Honda are leaders in the market for e-scooters with replaceable batteries. Gogoro is the leader in this segment, but the company has concentrated its activities in Asia, primarily in China, India and Indonesia.
Kymco’s entry into Europe will allow supplying e-scooters with replaceable batteries to Europe on a much larger scale than other manufacturers. Gogoro already offers its electric scooters on a smaller scale in Europe, Kymco hopes to conquer the Italian market. The ionex scooters will be distributed by KMI di Padana Sviluppo.
The Kymco ionex range includes the ionex Many 110 EV with a top speed of 50 km/h and a range of 200 km. This long range is achieved with 5 replaceable ionex batteries that can be carried on the scooter. The battery can be easily charged from the mains or replaced at a charging station.
The ionex Many 110 EV is an urban e-scooter that observers estimate could be a hit in Italy. One thing, this will require the creation of an infrastructure to replace batteries across the country.
