Catastrophic floods and landslides have hit southern Kyrgyzstan. Heavy rains flooded 835 homes and forced more than 1,000 residents to flee their homes, according to a statement from the country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations today.
In particular, in the Alai area of Os district, 229 houses, a school, roads and other infrastructure were flooded, while farmers lost dozens of animals. Another 606 houses were flooded in two communities in Jalal Abad district, while landslides damaged the road network in the eastern Narin district, according to the same source.
The Kyrgyz Ministry of Emergency Situations states that all relevant services have been mobilized, with the assistance of the army, to alleviate the casualties and repair the damage caused in the aforementioned areas.
