L. Oikonomou to visit Albania: Aim to strengthen security cooperation

The strengthening of the cooperation in the level of security, between Greece and Albania and in general in the Balkans, is the subject of a two-day working visit to Albania, paid by the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection, Lefteris Oikonomou, today Monday and tomorrow Tuesday, March 14th and 15th.

The visit takes place on the occasion of the fact that Greece currently holds the chairmanship of the South East European Cooperation Process, which is a form of regional police cooperation.

“Building a stable environment of security and protection, both in the national and in the wider Balkan field, presupposes, first of all, the sincere and mutual cooperation between Greece and Albania”, said Mr. Oikonomou, answering a relevant question of a journalist about the purpose and the content of his visit to the neighboring country.

Today, the Deputy Minister of Civil Protection will meet with the Archbishop of Tirana and All Albania, Anastasios, while he will have discussions with representatives of the Greek community on issues concerning the Greek minority in the neighboring country. In the evening he will attend a dinner given in his honor by the president of the “Omonia” branch of Heimarra.

Tomorrow, Mr. Economou will have talks with his counterpart, Undersecretary of Interior, Andi Mahila, on issues of police and cross-border cooperation between the two countries, while he will also attend a dinner given in his honor by the Albanian side.

The Deputy Minister of Civil Protection is accompanied by the Director of Information Management and Analysis, Brigadier General N. Tsetsikas and the Director of International Police Cooperation / AEA, Police Director I. Stavrakakis.
