Today’s article in La Repubblica reports that the Italian technocrat prime minister Mario Draghi reportedly willing to act as Georgia Meloni’s new government’s “guarantor” vis-a-vis Europe.
“According to diplomatic imgs in Berlin, Paris and Brussels, the Italian technocrat prime minister has been in contact with Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz and Ursula von der Leyen, acting as her guarantor Georgia Meloni and giving assurances regarding the three main points of action of the future Italian government.”
La Repubblica writes that these three main points are the support of Ukraine, that the Italian public debt will remain under control and that Italy will remain a loyal NATO partner.
The rebuttal
The presidency of the Italian government, however, a while ago denied the content of the article.
“The Italian Prime Minister did not agree and did not commit to guarantee anything. The prime minister has regular contacts with international interlocutors on the main issues of common interest and is committed to guaranteeing a peaceful transfer of government power within the framework of proper institutional relations.”
