Mom didn’t make it, but the doctors managed to deliver her baby girl. Ylenia Bardi, 34, from Pignone, in the province of La Spezia, suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in the eighth month of pregnancy. Last Friday, in the early afternoon, the woman was in her house: when she felt ill she gathered the few strength she had left and she fed herself with oxygen from a cylinder to allow her little girl to survive. Her air ambulance transported her to the San Martino hospital in Genoa, where the doctors managed to finish the caesarean section just as Ylenia was dying. His little Greta, although constantly monitored, seems to be doing well.
Ylenia’s husband, Simone, and her mother and father, have agreed to organ donation: the removal of the kidneys and liver of the woman who worked in the tourism sector and in the accommodation facilities of the Cinque Terre was authorized. “Thanks to the doctors who did everything possible to tear my wife from death and to allow her to give birth to our daughter,” commented the young husband.
“She was about to become a mother but, unfortunately, she didn’t have time to see her baby born. With an emergency caesarean in the eighth month, the doctors of the San Martino hospital in Genoa, however, managed to save their daughter Greta, who fortunately is well ”, wrote the president of the Region Giovanni Toti. «Despite the immense pain, Ylenia’s family, with great generosity, decided to donate the woman’s organs. A gesture that we hope will save other lives. My deepest condolences and the embrace of all Liguria go to father Simone, little Greta and the whole community of Pignone ».
The president of the Province of La Spezia, Pierluigi Peracchini, shares in the pain of the family: “The disappearance of a young woman and the sacrifice of a mother must be a warning to all of us about the value of life. To the little born I wish the best for the future in memory of her mother’s love ».
