Faced with the increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 in Brazil, microbiologist Natalia Pasternak, in an interview with CNN this Friday (3), he criticized the way in which the flexibilities took place in the country, especially the use of masks.
“We were wrong to praise this removal of masks and not educate the population for when, and how, the mask is necessary”, he said.
In the expert’s assessment, more than focusing on whether or not to use the equipment, it is necessary to be aware of the risks associated with each environment and the benefits brought by the accessory.
“The mask serves to reduce the likelihood of contagion. So in places where contagion is very likely – such as public transport, very crowded and very closed places, without ventilation, where people will spend long periods together – in these places common sense should speak louder”, he explained.
In addition to masks, Pasternak reiterated the importance of completing the vaccination regimen to ensure protection against the disease.
“Whoever is over 50 is now eligible to take the 4th dose, they should take it, they will be more protected”, oriented the specialist. The Ministry of Health announced yesterday (2) the recommendation.
Pasternak also oriented people who are with delayed doses to complete the vaccine cycle.
“Almost all vaccines except Janssen’s are three-dose vaccines. So the complete vaccine regimen, for anyone is a three-dose regimen,” she said.
