Lack of support for adequate training of school managers, says expert

In an interview with CNN Radioon CNN Educação, the director of applied knowledge of D3E (Data for a Democratic Debate in Education), Lara Simielli, defended that there is a lack of government support for the training of school managers.

She, who is also a professor in the Department of Public Management at FGV, said that a D3E report on director development pointed out that “teaching experience is important for a management position, but specific training is necessary.”

“Only one in 10 managers have this postgraduate degree. It is a worrying fact, which shows that the government is not providing support for this adequate training to perform this position”, he added.

According to Lara Simielli, the fight against inequality “has to be at the center of the agenda”.

“You have to think about schools, how they are structuring themselves to reverse this situation. Teacher training is central, but school management is also important, principals play a crucial role in this.”

The training of managers, for the specialist, necessarily has to address this issue: “Equity is a transversal point in this training, it will go through bullying, inclusion of students, all these themes, even facing machismo, several issues that are on the agenda in society today”.
