AvtoVAZ and Yandex are discussing the supply of LADA cars for taxis and car sharing services of the domestic Internet giant. The head of AvtoVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, told media representatives about this at the Transport of Russia forum.
Maxim Sokolov confirmed the fact of negotiations with Yandex, noting that if the parties reach an agreement, then deliveries will begin after 2023. According to the head of AvtoVAZ, Yandex is primarily interested in cars with automatic transmission, while AvtoVAZ, due to the lack of necessary components, currently produces only models with manual transmission.
“We do not remove it (dialogue with Yandex — approx. Trashbox.ru) from our agenda, of course, we are interested in such a large consumer of our products. The only thing is that this is not a question for next year, because the type of cars that Yandex needs, of course, they are ready to use a manual transmission for a number of cities, but basically they are guided by an automatic transmission. This is not a question of next year, but a little more long-term planning of our relations with Yandex, which we are focused on, ”said Sokolov.
Recently, speaking about the resumption of production of cars with automatic transmission, AvtoVAZ said that they were not even considering the possibility of returning to the automatic and CVT transmissions of the Japanese company Jatco. It is still unknown who will become the new supplier of automatic transmissions for LADA, how and when AvtoVAZ will be able to start producing cars with automatic transmission again.
