The pop star and actress Lady Gaga confirmed his participation in the sequel to the psychological thriller and Oscar-winning, “Joker”, with a post on his Twitter account, this Thursday (4).
The post shows silhouettes of Joaquin Phoenix and Gaga’s characters dancing together to the song “Cheek to Cheek”, originally written by Irving Berlin in 1935 for Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers’ film “The Piccolino”.
“Joker 2” will see Phoenix reprise his role as the title character and is set to open in theaters on October 4, 2024.
The actor had first played the role in the 2019 film, which won him an Oscar for best actor. The story depicts the origin of the archenemy of the DC Comics superhero, Batman.
No further details about the sequel were immediately available from Warner Bros. But the magazine “Variety”, reported that the new production will have Lady Gaga playing the accomplice of the Joker, Harley Quinn.

Lady Gaga will be the newest in a long list of actresses who have played or voiced the iconic character.
Most recently, Margot Robbie played the role of “Gotham City’s Crime Queen” in the 2020 movie “Birds of Prey” and in “Suicide Squad” the following year.
Folie à deux, the film’s original title, is a rare psychiatric syndrome also known as shared psychosis, likely suggesting the traditionally dependent relationship between Joker and Harley Quinn.
