The eurozone is better equipped to deal with the economic consequences of the new wave of Covid-19 or the Omicron variant, the President of the European Central Bank said on Sunday Christine Lagarde.
Many European countries have imposed restrictive measures due to the increase in Covid-19 cases. The new Omicron variant was spotted in South Africa last week and cases of it have already appeared in Europe.
“There is obvious concern about the (eurozone) economic recovery in 2022, but I think we have learned a lot. Now we know our enemy and what measures to take.
“We are all better equipped to respond to the danger of a fifth wave or the Omicron variant,” Lagarde told Italian television station RAI.
“The crisis has taught us that this virus knows no borders. Therefore, we will not be protected until we are all vaccinated, “she added, according to the Italian translation of her statements.
