The Lagoa dos Patos region, in Rio Grande do Sul, will have great risk of flooding, according to an alert from the National Center for Monitoring and Alerts for Natural Disasters, Cemaden, for this Sunday (9).
“The hydrological risk is considered high due to the continuity of flooding processes in the Southeast Rio-Grandense mesoregion, with emphasis on the municipalities located close to the mouth of Lagoa dos Patos”, says the alert.
According to the agency, the level of the Lagoon is currently at 1.87 m – with the flood level being 1.70 m.
In May, the state of Rio Grande do Sul and three other states — Roraima, Sergipe and Rio Grande do Norte — recorded rainfall above the historical average.
The state of Rio Grande do Sul was hit by persistent and voluminous rains due to a broad area of low atmospheric pressure that favored the formation of new areas of instability, along with the formation and displacement of a cold front.
