LAMWAY GROUP: Hotel management is necessary for the industry

With many years of presence in the Greek market, the company Lamway Hotel Management Group to date has created a portfolio of 23 hotels in 12 destinations in Greece. This is a Greek company for the development and management of hotel units, focusing on the provision of specialized consulting proposals and solutions to hotel owners and investors.

Behind the successful course of Lamway is its owner, Demosthenes Leontis, who has been personally involved in the hospitality and tourism industry for 25 years.

How developed is the field of hotel management in Greece? What is the position of Lamway Hotel Management Group and what are its plans?

Hotel management is now a necessity for hotel units, regardless of their size. The challenges of the market, as well as the intense competition, create the conditions for the hotels to trust experienced companies that focus on hotel management, in order to be able to cope with the adverse conditions and to ensure the best possible results!

In Greece, the hotel management industry has been developing in recent years, with new companies focusing on hotel management. However, it is worth noting that the experience of Lamway Hotel Management after 13 years of operation has created the right ground and infrastructure to be able to support the needs of each hotel unit, both in adapting to new technological data and in the efficient operation of all of the departments that make up a hotel. Consistency, organization and method are required to ensure the smooth operation of a hotel. The aim is the faster harmonization in the new conditions of the tourist market, but also the achievement of the goals of quality and efficiency.

The presence of our hotels is in 12 different places in mainland and island Greece. The immediate plans of Lamway Hotel Management Group are the inclusion in the portfolio of the company of new hotel units in Mykonos, Andros, Spetses, Santorini, Crete, Samos and Kos (some accommodations are still under evaluation).

At the moment, among other things, a 5-star hotel is under construction in the area of Agia Anna and Kalafati, Mykonos, which is already a member of the Lamway Hotel Management Group. This is a high level investment, exclusively of Greek interests. According to the requirements of the island and given that it attracts high-income tourists, the new hotel will be another luxury construction.

What are the advantages of a unit working with Lamway Hotel Management Group?

How does 2021 end for your company and partner hotels? In which areas did you get the best results?

This year, despite the adversity it had due to the pandemic conditions, ended up yielding very positive results at the end of the year. Lamway Hotel Management Group approached the numbers of 2019, however it is worth noting that this year’s tourist season was more limited in time compared to previous years (the actual launch of the market took place at the end of June).

However, the desire of tourists for moments of rest and carefree, after such a stressful year, contributed to the increase in demand for the Greek islands, winning the bet of extending the tourist season until the beginning of November for some destinations. The strongest destinations in terms of revenue and traffic were Mykonos, Paros, Santorini and Ios.

How did Lamway Hotel Management Group deal with the difficult period of the pandemic where most of the country’s hotels did not open?

The Lamway Hotel Management Group became a man during the two years of the pandemic, overcame the challenges that arose and continues its course with a creative approach and a growth mood. We showed resilience and flexibility and the fact that we are a purely Greek company without any lending helped us maintain our financial stability.

We stood next to the hoteliers, offering daily personal time and energy to be close to the needs of our customers. We have worked and continue our professional course with a professional ethos, we have created a strategy to meet the challenges of the market and we have used new technologies and skills that contribute to the profitability of each hotel unit.

What are the biggest challenges facing the hotel industry in our country today and what do you think are its prospects?

Based on the latest epidemiological developments, it seems that the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy and the hotel industry will continue. So we must face any changes and consequences calmly and with preventive measures.

Next it is worth mentioning the human resources, which is for the hotelier the most important factor of customer satisfaction and its highest cost. Each hotel unit should therefore invest in creating a dynamic and stable team of executives, capable of working methodically and with a creative disposition to meet the challenges of the market.

Hoteliers must meet the challenges of the competition and reinvest in their hotels, upgrading their infrastructure and services. It is also crucial to turn hoteliers’ interest in “sustainable tourism”. The majority of tourists today want to visit areas with high environmental quality and strong elements of local culture. Given that tourism is a complex process, which is related to different sectors of society and the economy, it becomes clear that its sustainable development requires mutual respect, unity and permanent cooperation between all private and public actors whose activities are related to tourism directly or indirectly at local and national level. Internships in hotel units can start with actions such as reducing electricity, reducing water overconsumption, choosing eco amenities, etc.
