Bruce Springsteen, Lana Del Rey and Raye are among the musicians who emerged as winners of the Ivors Academy Fellowship, an annual British award for songwriters.
American rocker Springsteen became the first international songwriter to receive the award, the UK-based association's highest honor. The ceremony took place in London, on Thursday (23).
The “Born to Run” guitarist and singer joins Sting, Kate Bush and Paul McCartney, becoming a member of the academy. He was recognized “for his extraordinary contribution to the art of songwriting and impact on the British cultural scene”.
“I want to thank you for letting my music into your hearts and souls. I want to thank them for including me in the challenging and beautiful cultural life of the UK,” he said, accepting the award presented by Paul McCartney. “Before it was just a dream. Now it’s real.”
Raye, who won six awards in one night at the BRIT Awards, the country's biggest music awards, was chosen as songwriter of the year.
The award for Best Album, a category described as a celebration “of consistent creativity and inventiveness, as well as exceptional songwriting”, went to jazz drummer Yussef Dayes, for his mostly instrumental album “Black Classical Music”.
“Black Swan”, by Victoria Canal, which won last year in the Rising Star category, won the award for best song musically and lyrically.
Lana Del Rey received a special international award for her career and influence, while Elton John's collaborator Bernie Taupin was honored for his contribution to British music.
