Lana Del Rey has the best song of 2023, says newspaper; see ranking

Lana Del Rey leads the list of best song of the year released by the British newspaper The Guardian on Monday (4).

With “A&W”, the American singer tops a ranking that includes names like Troye Sivan, Kylie Minogue, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo.

The song was the second single from Lana Del Rey’s latest album, “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd”, released in March of this year. “A&W” was the first song played by the singer at the shows she performed in Brazil this year, at the MITA festival.

She shares the authorship of “A&W” with Jack Antonoff, a producer known for working with singers such as Taylor Swift, Lorde and Sia.

“A&W” refers to a famous beer brand in the United States and, at the same time, is an acronym for American Whore, which is a title Lana gives herself in the song.

In the lyrics, she portrays her childhood, invites men to have emotional sex in her hotel room and, through a reference to the film “The Diary of a Teenage Girl”, insinuates that she had an affair with her mother’s boyfriend.
