A landslide in the city of Pekalongan, in Central Java, Indonesia, killed 16 people and injured ten this Tuesday (21), according to Abdul Muhari, an official with the country’s disaster mitigation agency.
The landslide was triggered by intense rain in the area since Monday (20), said the agency’s spokesperson.
Authorities are now searching for three missing people, he added.
Kompas TV footage shows that houses were heavily damaged and buried by the landslide, with cars also seen buried under mud.
The landslide damaged roads, leaving debris and rocks strewn across them.
Spokesperson Muhari commented that two bridges were damaged in the disaster.
The disaster agency warned residents that the rain was expected to continue in the coming days.
